Red Cross raises $86,000 for Ukraine – target is $100,000

More than $86,000 has been raised to help Ukrainians as the country’s conflict with Russia rages on, the Bermuda Red Cross confirmed yesterday.

The appeal, which has a goal of $100,000, will see the funds sent to the Ukraine Red Cross through the UK once the target has been met.

The Bermuda Red Cross launched the appeal at the end of last month shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine.

The account will also be open for another three months.

The International Federation of Red Cross & Red Crescent hopes to raise $100 million for Ukrainian refugees. The British Red Cross has raised about $36 million.

A spokeswoman for the Bermuda Red Cross said that aid agencies had seen an “unprecedented amount of donations”.

She added that the IFRC has deployed a “massive” surge team and at least two emergency response units in the Ukraine and surrounding countries to help with relief and logistics.

Donations can be made by direct deposit into the Butterfield bank account 20 006 060 663859 200.

The public can also go online here to donate by debit or credit card.

The charity will also take card details at 236-8253, Monday to Friday, between 8.30am and 4pm.

Donations can be made in person or by post to the office at the Bermuda Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal, 9 Berry Hill Road, Paget DV03.
