Free activities to be held at Museum for its community day

The National Museum of Bermuda will be hosting a free community day on Sunday, February 26.

There will be food vendors and door prizes and a number of free activities for all ages. Sponsored by BF&M, the community day is part of Free for February, which gives all residents free admission to the museum during the entire month, also sponsored by BF&M.

The activities will run from 11am until 3pm and the museum will be open for free to residents and visitors from 10am until 5pm.

Yoga teacher Lisa Wingood will teach a yoga-inspired breathing and movement class open to all ages and abilities, while artist Ronnie Chameau will teach palmetto weaving.

Mr Chameau will be joined by artist and educator Louisa Bermingham, who will be conducting a hands-on art activity featuring objects from the museum’s collection.

Local artist Graham Foster will also be on site to share information and answer questions about his famous 1,000sq ft mural that details Bermuda’s history.

The Warwick Gombeys will close the day with a festive air, performing in the Keep Yard at 2.30pm.

All day activities include archery lessons in the Keep Yard, family activity guides to dive deeper into Bermuda history and NMB exhibits, a Black History in Bermuda digital tour, and a Q&A with the museum’s curatorial team.

There will also be free beverage and chilli stations provided by Butterfield & Vallis and Fourways at the Commissioner’s House, while Dockyard Brewing will be pouring free samples of two of its local craft beers in the Keep Yard.

Other vendors in the Keep Yard will include Jazzy’s Treats, Pacos Tacos and Cafecito with food and drinks for sale.

Katie Bennett, the museum’s advancement officer, said: “We are so excited to host our first-ever community day during Free for February — now in its tenth year — and we are thrilled to have BF&M’s sponsorship for the second year in a row of this community programme.”
