Man in court on attempted murder charge

A 24-year-old Pembroke man was charged in Magistrates’ Court yesterday with attempted murder.Noet Alexander Barnett, of Footbridge Lane, was charged with attempting to murder 27-year-old Jeremiah Dill. Mr Barnett was also charged with using a firearm on October 4 to commit the offence of attempted murder. He was further charged with handling a firearm, a Rexio RJ series .48 revolver, at some time between October 4 and December 22 last year. Mr Dill was shot in broad daylight near One Stop Variety on Parson’s Road. He was treated for injuries to his “lower extremities” and later released from hospital.Mr Barnett appeared in court yesterday in a blue jumpsuit with a white vest and flanked by eight uniformed police officers. He remained silent during proceedings.He was not required to enter a plea because the charges are indictable only and must be heard in Supreme Court. Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered Mr Barnett to be remanded in custody until the matter is mentioned again on January 31.
