Motorcyclist had drugs in his shoe
A 22-year-old pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court yesterday to drug possession.Gary Blackwell admitted trying to evade police while riding his motorcycle on February 9, 2008.The Pembroke resident was carrying 1.47 grams of cannabis and 0.64 grams of ecstasy tablets at the time.Crown counsel Tawana Tannock said uniformed officers on Serpentine Road at 12.10am saw Blackwell riding a motorcycle.He was near the junction with Cemetery Road when he spotted the officers, turned and drove off in the other direction.Blackwell was pursued to St John's Road where he pulled over and was informed he was being searched.He told police: “I've got a little bit of herb in my left shoe.”A further search of the motorcycle also uncovered a box containing two white tablets.Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered a social inquiry report and a drug assessment. He adjourned sentencing until March 17.Blackwell was given $3,000 bail with a like surety.Mr Tokunbo then told him: “You have an outstanding fine of $100 for driving while disqualified on December 8. You must pay that today or you're not going to go anywhere.”Blackwell said he was able to pay the fine.Mr Tokunbo then added a further $1,000 to be paid by February 28 and disqualified Blackwell from driving for a further six months.
