Bail given to man accused of tampering with parking machines
A Sandys man was yesterday accused of trying to break into parking machines outside City Hall. Richard DeSilva, 30, of White Hill, denied carrying tools for theft.He also denied carrying an offensive weapon and a bladed article in a public place on February 15. According to Crown counsel Larissa Burgess, Mr DeSilva was seen on CCTV tampering with the parking machines.He was holding the screwdriver, while scissors with blades longer than three inches were found in his jacket when police arrived. Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner pointed out: “Possession of a screwdriver is not in itself offensive.”Ms Burgess said Mr DeSilva had told police he was carrying it “in case he got jumped”.Mr. DeSilva was given bail on surety and will return for trial on May 19.
