Impaired bike rider crashed in front of police

A Sandys man who crashed his bike in front of police has been banned from the road for one year.David Leroy Brunson, 21, of Woodlawn Road, admitted in Magistrates’ Court to driving while impaired and without a valid driver’s license on March 19.Crown counsel Maria Sofianos told the court that at 3.30am, police at a traffic stop on Trimingham Road, Paget, observed a motorcycle travelling at high speed.When they signalled him to stop, the driver collided with two stationary motorcycles. The driver was lightly injured, and bystanders T’Mai Burns, Donneisha Butterfield and Damien Walker were also thrown to the ground.Brunson, who was unable to walk or talk, smelled strongly of alcohol, and was arrested.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined him $1,000, plus $100 for not having a valid license, and disqualified him from driving for 12 months.In another case, a Southampton man who denied driving while intoxicated, but admitted to refusing a breathalyser, was also banned from the road.The court heard that on March 19 at 3.30am, Trovaughn Dean Smith, 26, of Granaway Drive, was observed by police driving erratically and at a high speed on North Shore Road in Devonshire. His red Kia was pulled over on Roberts Avenue, where he appeared to be intoxicated.Smith agreed to a breath test but refused later at Hamilton Police Station.Mr Warner fined him $1,000 and disqualified him from driving for 12 months.
