Man charged with assaulting police officer

A 27-year-old man in Magistrates’ Court was yesterday charged with assaulting a police officer.Triston Ricardo Weir pleaded not guilty to the March 24 offence.An officer was put in hospital with a head injury after police on patrol on Court Street chased a man driving a motorcycle.The chase led the officers to Middletown in Pembroke, where the officer fell after he was pushed.Weir admitted dangerous driving and not having a driver’s licence. He denied assaulting Pc Paul Canfield.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner released Weir on $2,000 bail. He was ordered to return to court on May 25.
