Youth admits sexual assault on girl, 14
A 19-year-old youth yesterday admitted sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl, during an appearance in Magistrates’ Court. The 19-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault on the girl between September 1 and November 30 last year.Crown counsel Carrington Mahoney said on one occasion the young girl was shoved up against a wall and sexually assaulted. The attacker only stopped as he heard an outside noise, the court heard. At another time the boy learned the girl had stayed home sick from school and went to her home and assaulted her.Mr Mahoney said after the attack the victim “locked the door and curled up in her bed until her sister came home from school”.The victim later told her family, but said she was worried as the defendant was bigger than her and she didn’t think anyone would believe her.According to the defendant’s lawyer Llewellyn Peniston, this was an “unusual case” as his client was from a very religious family.Mr Peniston said his client immediately confessed to the offence and has “tried to embark on a positive course in his life”, including taking part in counselling.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered a social inquiry report for the defendant, who was ordered to return to court on May 25 for sentencing. He was released on bail with a further condition of not interfering with any witnesses in the case.
