Banned motorist tells court he was ‘scared to walk’

A 38-year-old man was jailed for one month after he was caught driving while disqualified a second time.Maxwell Smith admitted the offence when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court, telling Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner: “I’m scared to walk, your honour, I’m being honest with you.”He was pulled over on April 14 while driving his motorcycle on South Road just one week before the end of his 12-month term of disqualification.The court heard that Smith had been convicted on March 1 for the same offence. Mr Warner fined him $300, plus 30 days’ imprisonment.
