Teenager is fined $1,000 for swearing at the police
A teenager was fined for swearing outside a police building.Sergio Woolridge, 19, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court to using offensive words on April 2.He claimed he had just been attacked by a stranger.Crown counsel Nicole Smith said police received a report of a person being chased and taking refuge in a police building around 11.45am on April 2.Officers then saw Woolridge standing outside the building, shouting: “F*** you, I will f****** get you.”They warned him it was an offence to use offensive words in public.Woolridge told the officers: “What the f***? You guys are f****** p******.”Police then arrested him for using offensive words in a public place.In court Woolridge admitted cursing, but said that officers only saw the end of the incident, not the beginning.“To make a long story short, I was minding my business when two guys pulled up to me on a bike and one of them hit me with a helmet,” he said.He said he chased his attackers until one hopped off the bike and ran into a building, coming out shortly afterwards “acting all innocent”.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Woolridge $1,000.
