Two men fined and banned from the roads for impaired driving
A 60-year-old caught drink driving with more than three times the legal limit of alcohol in his blood has appeared in Magistrates’ Court.Rayburn Robinson, of Southcote Avenue, Pembroke, was caught riding his motorcycle in an erratic manner on April 15 around 10.35pm.The court heard that officers on Cavendish Road in Pembroke saw Robinson “speeding up and slowing down” and “swerving across the central yellow line”.When they stopped his vehicle and asked him to get off, they noticed he was unsteady on his feet and needed help standing.After being cautioned about the offence, he replied: “Yes I had a few drinks today.”Robinson was taken to the Hamilton Police Station where a breathalyser test showed he had 278 milligrams of alcohol in his blood.The legal limit is 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.Also in Magistrates’ Court for drink driving charges was Omagae Goater, 26.Goater was caught riding his motorcycle on Front Street in Hamilton at a high speed.He appeared to have difficulty controlling his cycle and had to hold onto a taxi for support, said prosecutor Kristy-Ann Kiellor.Goater, of Loyal Hill, Devonshire, was shown to have 81 milligrams of alcohol in his system.He pleaded for leniency with Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner and said he was only “one point over” and “was not drunk”.Both men were fined $1,000 and disqualified from the Island’s roads for one year.
