Impaired driver was clocked at 100kph
Speeding while impaired by alcohol got a Hamilton Parish man banned from the roads for two years.Pernell Outerbridge, 25, drove at high speed past a police speed check on North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish on May 1 at 12.55am.A laser detector registered his speed as 100kph.Outerbridge was pursued and stopped. Police noticed his voice was slurred and there was a smell of alcohol.He told them: “I only had two beers and a couple of shots at a friend’s house. I live just five minutes from here.”Asked to supply a sample of his breath for testing, Outerbridge said: “You can’t prove I’m drunk if I don’t give it. I know the law.”He was then arrested.Outerbridge pleaded guilty to speeding but told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner: “I felt like I wasn’t doing 100.”He denied driving while impaired, and said he felt targeted by police.Mr Warner fined him $1,000 for driving while impaired, and disqualified him from driving for 24 months. He also fined Outerbridge $500 for speeding.
