A teenager has been sentenced to a month in prison after he admitted possessing a stolen motorcycle.Kashi Jones, 18, told officers that he had purchased the bike from Troy Harris, but investigating officers discovered that Mr Harris was actually incarcerated at the time.According to Crown counsel Tawana Tannock, complainant Alexander White said he parked his motorcycle outside his house on February 20, but the next day it, along with a set of keys, was missing.On March 17, at around 1.50pm, police noticed the stolen bike in Smith’s parked near a trailer.Officers spoke to Jones, who said he had purchased the bike from Mr Harris two weeks earlier for $1,200 in cash, and that he had all of the bike’s documentation at home.When officers looked at the documentation, it showed that the bike actually belonged to Mr White, and that Mr Harris was serving an 18-month sentence at the time he allegedly sold Jones the bike.They also learned from Jones’ employer that he had been working as a landscaper at Mr White’s home the day the bike was last seen.In Magistrates’ Court yesterday, Jones admitted possessing stolen property, but told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner that he did not steal the bike.“It had the same licence number so I thought everything was legit,” he said.Mr Warner responded: “But you looked at the papers. Are you telling me you didn’t know the name of the man who sold you the bike, because you said it was Troy Harris? And it’s just coincidence that you were working at the house where the bike was stolen?”Jones responded: “I work at a lot of houses.”Mr Warner sentenced Jones to 30 days imprisonment for receiving stolen goods.
