Teenager charged over pit bull attack on warden
A 19-year-old Devonshire man has appeared in Magistrates’ Court, in connection with Friday’s alleged pit bull attack on a Government animal warden.Jahmieko Perkins, of Schools Drive, was charged with intentionally causing grievous bodily harm by unlawfully wounding Jeffrey Shaw on May 27.Mr Perkins is also accused of being the person in charge of a pit bull terrier that caused injury to a person. He was not required to enter a plea, as his case must be dealt with by the Supreme Court.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner granted Mr Perkins bail of $10,000, and ordered him to return to court on June 13.The Royal Gazette understands that Mr Shaw remains off work since the alleged attack.In the incident on Friday, police and an animal warden attended a Hamilton address in response to a report of animal cruelty. According to police, the animal attacked the warden and a passer-by, before being shot dead by an armed officer.
