Jail for driving while banned

A Southampton man who continued to drive while banned from the roads has been given two jail sentences in Magistrates’ Court.Darren William Roberts, 26, also picked up more than $2,000 in traffic fines.Roberts was fined $400 and given ten days’ imprisonment for each occasion of driving while disqualified, on March 3 and April 9.He had been disqualified for one year in April, 2010, for driving while intoxicated, but told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner that public transport was too unreliable.Mr Warner additionally fined Roberts $1,000 for no third party insurance, $250 for driving an auxiliary cycle without a license, and $100 for having defective brakes. The jail sentences are to be served concurrently.
