Drug importer’s jail term is halved for helping authorities
A Jamaican cruise ship worker jailed for his part in a cocaine-smuggling ring has seen his sentence cut in half.Adrian Morris, a cleaner on the Explorer of the Seas, was sent to Westgate for six years on June 11, 2010, after pleading guilty to importation when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court.His appeal of the sentence was heard by Puisne Judge Charles-Etta Simmons.Crown counsel Cindy Clarke said Morris’s sentence had been cut because of his assistance with local authorities.Another ship employee, Ricardo Stewart, accused of being the ringleader of the plot, was jailed for 15 years in February.Morris was caught last year as the cruise vessel approached Bermuda. The ship’s CCTV showed him taking a bag containing 3.9kg of cocaine from his cabin and concealing it in the onboard disco bar.
