Drink driver gets roads ban
A 28-year-old man was banned from the Island’s roads after being caught riding with more than three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.Rashad Cooper, of Fenton’s Drive, Pembroke, admitted with 253 milligrams of alcohol in his system on June 25 while on Front Street in Pembroke. The legal limit is 80 mg per 100 millilitres of blood.Prosecutor Cindy Clarke said officers saw a black and white motorcycle driving in a westerly direction around 3.20am. The rider appeared unsteady on the bike and didn’t have proper care and control of the vehicle.Officers also noticed a strong scent of alcohol coming from his breath. When cautioned by police, Cooper said: “I had two shots. I am not drunk”.He was taken to Hamilton Police Station and given an alco-analyser test. Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Cooper $1,000 and disqualified him from driving all vehicles for 12 months.
