Sentencing of killer is delayed again
The sentencing of convicted killer Antonio Myers, 26, has been delayed until September. In March, Myers was found guilty in Supreme Court of the 2009 murder of Kumi Harford, 30, on St Monica’s Road.Since then, his sentencing has repeatedly been set back due to scheduling reasons. In Supreme Court yesterday, Director of Prosecutions Rory Field said he was ready to proceed but defence attorney Elizabeth Christopher requested that the sentencing be pushed back so that Jerome Lynch QC, who represented Myers during the trial, could address the court on sentencing.Calling the repeated adjournments an “embarrassment,” Puisne Judge Carlisle Greaves said that some members of the public believe Myers has already been sentenced.“There is a perception out there in the public that Mr Myers has been sentenced already, that he has been sentenced to 25 years or something like that, that Parkside people are being treated more lightly than 42 people, and should the judge be fired,” he said.“I don’t know how the misinformation goes around.”
