A woman at the centre of the Corporation of Hamilton labour dispute has been charged in Magistrates’ Court with dealing cannabis.Sacked Corporation worker Clevonna Symonds, 38, yesterday denied possessing the drug with intent to supply on June 7 in Sandys.It’s understood Ms Symonds lost her job at the Corporation for taking leave to look after a sick child; Bermuda Industrial Union has said it presented documentary evidence showing how she used a benefit under ‘special compassionate leave’.On Wednesday, BIU issued a 21-day strike notice on behalf of Corporation workers protesting at the sacking of Ms Symonds and Michael Pond, the trash collector fired after hitting a 16-year-old girl who abused his mother.In court yesterday, Ms Symonds was charged alongside Keion Simmons, 34, who also pleaded not guilty.The Sandys pair additionally denied possessing a scale and bag sealer as drug equipment.Mr Simmons also denied possession with intent to supply on the same date on Court Street.The alleged offence occurred in an increased penalty zone within 300 metres of Heritage Nursery.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner granted them each $10,000 bail, and set a November 17 trial date.The Corporation’s labour dispute matter is understood to be in the hands of the Labour Department.
