Man charged with attempted arson

A self-employed painter has been charged with trying to set fire to a restaurant.Carlos Astwood, 46, is alleged to have committed the attempted arson at Buzz restaurant on Pitt’s Bay Road, Hamilton, on October 28, while a security guard was inside.He is further accused of wilful damage to the property.Mr Astwood appeared before Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo yesterday. The case must be dealt with by the Supreme Court, so he did not have to enter a plea.Mr Tokunbo granted the defendant $10,000 bail with a condition that he must not go “anywhere near” the restaurant in question. He must also report to Hamilton Police Station twice a week.Mr Astwood must return to court later this month for an administrative hearing.
