Teen admits possessing cannabis at school

A schoolboy caught with cannabis pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court to possession of a controlled drug.His now former classmate, who is accused of selling it to him, was remanded into custody.Bryan McIntosh, 17, of Hillsdale, Smith’s admitted to the November 3 offence at the Berkeley Institute, an increased penalty zone.Crown counsel Susan Mulligan said police were dispatched to the Pembroke school after two students were seen with plantlike material.Two packets containing 0.7 grams of cannabis were found hidden in McIntosh’s tie. The boy told police he purchased them from another student while in class, for $10 each.Both students were arrested. According to Ms Mulligan, McIntosh cooperated fully with police.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered a social inquiry report and released McIntosh on $2,000 bail, ordering him to return to court for sentencing on January 9.The now-former Berkeley student charged with supplying McIntosh denied the charge.Kiaaron Minks, 18, of South Shore Road, Smith’s, also denied possessing grinders and cannabis at a Smith’s address.Mr Warner set a January 4 trial date, and remanded Minks into custody at the Co-Ed Facility until then.
