Alleged gang member admits throwing punch at rival

An alleged gang member yesterday admitted throwing a punch at a man in the Dame Lois Browne-Evans Building.Jahfari Raynor, 19, of Overview Hill, Pembroke, pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour shortly after being released on bail from Magistrates’ Court last Thursday at 10.15am.Crown counsel Kirsty-Ann Kiellor told the court Raynor, who she described as a member of Parkside, was walking towards the security point as a rival gang member came the other way.Raynor threw a punch with his left arm, said the prosecutor, but he missed as the victim took evasive action.Ms Kiellor said Raynor then told the other man: “We will be waiting for you when you come back out.”However, the defendant denied the charge of threatening words.Defence lawyer Leo Mills argued the victim had taken a fighting stance, prompting Raynor to “react accordingly”.“Certainly, he might have handled it a little bit better,” said Mr Mills.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner said: “Why does he think he can come in this court and behave as he likes?”Raynor was remanded into custody ahead of another hearing on Thursday, January 5.
