Man denies blade charge
A 24-year-old St George’s man has appeared in Magistrates’ Court on charges of carrying a bladed article.Cameron Ramsay, of Slip Point Lane, denied the offence, along with carrying a pointed article and uttering threatening words to a police officer.The court heard from Crown counsel Kirsty-Ann Kiellor that on December 1 police spotted Mr Ramsay carrying a container of beer and a small bottle of spirits on Front Street. Since he was within 300 yards of Par-la-Ville Park, he was in an increased penalty zone.Following a search, a pointed letter opener was discovered on Mr Ramsay’s person. According to a police report, Mr Ramsay asserted that the letter opener was for protection. A further search revealed a knife wrapped in a bandanna hidden in Mr Ramsay’s sleeve.Lawyer Elizabeth Christopher requested that Mr Ramsay be given bail with an electronic monitoring bracelet.However, Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner remanded him into custody, to appear in court again on January 16.
