Prosecutors steered 74 cases through Supreme Court in 2011

The Department of Public Prosecution brought a total of 74 cases through the Supreme Court last year, including 19 firearms cases and five murder cases.Speaking yesterday during the January Arraignments session, Crown Counsel Cindy Clarke announced that while 28 2010 matters were brought forward into 2011, only 17 2011 matters have been carried over into 2012.All of the 2010 matters have now been dealt with, while 29 new matters have come before the court and been disposed of.Chief Justice Richard Ground praised the announcement, saying: “I think the Department and the Defence Bar is to be congratulated for the amount of cases we go through.”
