Prison for man who barricaded himself into a room
A homeless man was this morning jailed for 18 months after admitting entering a home late at night and confronting a woman.Ricardo Tucker, 48, pleaded guilty to entering a Joell’s Alley dwelling as a trespasser on January 4.The court heard that a woman who lived in one of the house’s four bedrooms had locked it up before going to sleep at around 8pm on January 3, but awoke to find the shutter to her bedroom window open and a men standing outside. The man told her to open her door, but she refused and called friends, who came and searched the property, finding the front door unlocked.Later that night, her and a friend heard footsteps in the house and her doorknob rattle as if someone was attempting to open it.She then called police, who while searching the property found that an unused bedroom was barricaded from the inside. When they gained access to the room, they found Tucker inside.Tucker told police that he had been given permission to stay in the room by property manager Dennis Bean, but Mr Bean told police he didn’t know Tucker and had not given him any such permission.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner said that Tucker has a history of breaking into women’s homes, and still had a six-month suspended sentence hanging over him for an assault charge.“Clearly this man presents a serious threat,” he said.Mr Warner sentenced Tucker to 18 months in prison, to be followed by two years of probation.
