Teen in court hours after cursing

A teenager who cursed at police on Front Street yesterday morning was fined in Magistrates’ Court hours later.Jahsyi Smith-Wilkinson, 19, from Pembroke, pleaded guilty to using offensive words.Crown counsel Nicole Smith said that around 2.05am, officers were called to a disturbance near The Beach Bar and Bistro where a man was found in an unresponsive state.Emergency medical technicians were talking to the man, who by then had regained consciousness. The officers attempted to hold the public back while the EMTs did their job.One of the officers was approached by Smith-Wilkinson who insisted on being let through. He told police: “That’s my f***ing boy. Let me talk to him. What is wrong with you?”The officers cautioned the teen about using offensive words and another member of the public pulled Smith-Wilkinson away, but he returned a short time later and attempted to get past the officers again. Stopped, he said to the officers: “F**k you, you can’t tell me what to do.”The teen was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station where he continued to curse, shouting: “You are a f***ing a**. I’m not listening to you f***ing a**es.”Yesterday, Smith-Wilkinson apologised to the court.“I was just trying to speak with my boy,” he said. “I was just trying to make sure my boy was straight.”Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Smith-Wilkinson $1,000 to be paid immediately.
