Man stole two steaks
A man who stole meat from a grocer while drunk, was yesterday ordered not to drink drinking alcohol.Sinclair Fox, 63, pleaded guilty to stealing a rib-eye steak and a sirloin steak from Arnold’s Supermarket in Somerset.Magistrates’ Court heard that store managers saw Fox enter the premises around 5.30pm on May 11.They recognised the Scotts Hill Road, Sandys resident and kept an eye on him. They saw him walk to the meat department and put two packages of meat in his jacket. He then asked a cashier to change some money for him and made to leave the store. The managers confronted Fox about the meat, which was valued at $31.87.He argued that as he hadn’t yet left the store, what he did could not be counted as theft.Yesterday Fox told the court he was very drunk at the time of the offence.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner said that wasn’t an excuse.“It seems like every time you get drunk you walk into a place and steal their things. For years you have been doing these things.”Fox told the court that he wanted to give up drinking, promising that he would not make the same mistakes again.Mr Warner gave Fox a 12-month conditional discharge with the order that he does not consume alcohol or any other drug or enter any liquor licensed premises.
