Cycle mirror thief must pay back victim

A Devonshire man who admitted stealing motorcycle mirrors of a parked bike was ordered to reimburse the victim.Troy Woods, 40, of Devon Springs, pleaded guilty to stealing motorcycle parts valued at $105 in an incident earlier this month.Crown counsel Larissa Burgess told Magistrates' Court that the complainant, Kieron Smith, left his Sym parked on the patio of his Devonshire home on January 3 when he left for work.When Mr Smith returned at around 3.30pm that day, he noticed something appeared to be different about the vehicle.Curious, he watched CCTV footage of the patio, which showed Woods coming onto the patio at around 9.25am and removing both of the motorcycle's mirrors.The footage also showed Woods returning hours later and kneeling by the vehicle's muffler.Looking at the vehicle again, the Mr Smith realised that both mirrors and a muffler guard had been removed. He subsequently contacted the police and showed them the video footage.Woods was arrested later that day.Appearing in court, Woods pleaded guilty to theft, saying he had fixed the bike for the complainant but had not been fully paid for his work.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered that Woods reimbursed the complainant $105, and further fined Woods $500 for the offence.
