Two mothers who got in a fight after one “accidentally spilled a drink” on the other, appeared yesterday in Magistrates’ CourtLavida Codrington, 24, and Shamir Gordon, 28, pleaded guilty to fighting on Front Street early Sunday morning.Crown counsel Larissa Burgess said police saw the two women trading blows around 2.50am.The officers warned the women to stop but they continued to fight until the officers separated themCodrington, a mother-of-three from Devonshire, told police the fight started because Gordon threw a drink on her.Meanwhile Gordon, a mother-of-two from Warwick, insisted that Codrington had thrown the first punch.Codrington apologised to the court and the public. She said she has no problem with Gordon and there wouldn’t be a repeat of the incident.Gordon’s lawyer, Charles Richardson, said the incident was a likely misunderstanding caused after his client accidentally spilled a drink on Codrington.Said Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner: “Why can’t young people understand that when you go to a place and it’s crowded you might have a drink spilled on you?“It shouldn’t be happening at all. They should have enough common sense as young people to know they are there to have fun and people are going to get their shoes stepped on and they cannot react that way.”Mr Warner released both defendants with a conditional discharge, warning them that if they commit another offence in the next 12 months a conviction will be recorded against them.“I hope the embarrassment is enough,” Mr Warner said.
