Man shoplifted box of Cuban cigars
A 42-year-old Southampton man was remanded in custody yesterday after he admitted stealing a box of Cuban cigars worth $420 from Pulp and Circumstance in the Washington Mall.Kevin John Boys appeared in Magistrates’ Court where he denied uttering threatening words to one of the staff on June 5.The court heard that the sales assistant observed Boys walking out of the store with the box of cigars, she called out to the defendant and followed him up to Church Street.Crown counsel Tawana Tannock said the store employee also saw the defendant put the cigars in a trash can near Gibbons Company on Church Street in Hamilton. “The police recovered the cigars out of the trash prior to making the arrest.”The box contained 15 Cuban cigars valued at $15 a piece. Senior Magistrate set the case for threatening words and sentencing down for 2.30pm today before remanding Boys in custody.
