Prisoner admits drug possession
A prisoner has admitted having cannabis just two months into a 30 year sentence for shooting two people.Jahmel Glenn Blakeney, admitted to Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner that he had the cannabis in Westgate Correctional Facility an Increased Penalty Zone on February 20.Blakeney denied a charge of assaulting a Corrections Officer and a Principal Officer and will go on trial on October 21.Sentencing for the having cannabis will occur after that trial.Blakeney and Sanchey Grant were sentenced to 30 years imprisonment, with a minimum of 15 years behind bars before being considered for parole for shooting a gang member and the man’s pregnant girlfriend outside the Southside Cinema on November 13, 2009.The pair were described by the presiding judge as the “worst of the worst” in Bermuda’s court history.
