Grandfather’s behaviour earns a $600 fine
Delano Williams was approached by officers in the parking lot of Belvin’s Variety, on Happy Valley Road, Pembroke, around 9.15pm on July 22.He was said to be unsteady on his feet and talking to himself at the time.The Pembroke resident became aggressive and started cursing and trying to kick and spit on the officers when they approached him.He began thrashing his legs in an effort to cause harm to the officers while handcuffed.Williams was charged in Magistrates’ Court with uttering offensive words and behaving in a threatening manner.He said to Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner: “I am a polite person, but alcohol changes everybody. I am embarrassed by this charge.”Mr Warner replied: “You’re a father and a grandfather, you have got to stop drinking. You were a nuisance and caused the police time and effort.”Williams, who has previous convictions for uttering offensive words, was fined $300 for the first charge and $300 for the second.
