Curfew, suspended sentence for man who attacked policeman with a helmet

A 21-year-old man received a three-month suspended sentence for his involvement in a brawl outside Ice Queen.Yusef Williams, a Pembroke resident, was involved in a fight in the early morning of June 9 outside the restaurant.Police were called to the scene and broke up the fight, but Williams used a helmet to attack one of the officers.Williams, who is employed as a kitchen porter, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court on June 29 to taking part in a fight and assaulting a police officer.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner released Williams on bail and ordered a pre-sentence report.Williams has a similar conviction dating from November 2010, when he was found guilty of using threatening behaviour towards an Ice Queen employee. He was fined $300 for that offence.When asked by Mr Warner if he had anything to say, Williams apologised for wasting the court’s time.Williams was given a three-month sentence suspended for 24 months.He was released on the conditions that he remain employed or in full-time education, abstain from illegal substances and comply with any recommendations by court services.Williams is also under a curfew from 10pm to 6am for the first six months of the suspended sentence.Mr Warner informed Williams that if he comes before the court for any other offences or violates any of these conditions, his three-month prison sentence could be activated.
