Man in court after foul mouth rant at police
A 56-year-old who swore at police when he was drunk, was given a conditional discharge in Magistrates’ Court.James Hill said he turned to alcohol following a divorce but was now undergoing treatment for his “problem”.Crown counsel Susan Mulligan told the court that police were called to the Lemon Tree Cafe on Queen Street on August 6.They found Hill standing with a group of men shouting: “F*****g right! Who the f**k are you talking to?”When the officers warned him to stop using offensive language, Hill replied: “F*****g right, f**k you guys! What f*****g arrest?”Hill appeared to be intoxicated. He was arrested and charged with uttering offensive words to an officer. The Hamilton Parish resident pleaded guilty to the offence yesterday. The court heard he had convictions of a similar nature between 1976 and 1995.Asked by Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner why it had happened again, Hill replied: “I had a problem with alcohol. I was getting help at Focus, but I relapsed. I had a family, but I had a divorce and it caused me to start drinking again. I’m in the process of going back into treatment.”Replied Mr Warner: “It seems like you’re trying, so I’ll give you a conditional discharge.”Hill was given the conditional discharge under the condition that he receives drug treatment counselling and that he commits no further offences for eight months.
