Uninsured and unlicensed car costs woman $1,500 in fines
A woman who racked up $1,500 worth of driving fines said she ran into trouble because she did not understand the licensing procedure.Heather Taylor, 35, admitted in Magistrates’ Court to four charges of having an uninsured car and four of having an unlicensed car between April and June. She told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner she had been working in Zurich, so tried to licence her car online.“When I returned I was called by TCD who said that the car was not licensed,” she explained.“They asked if the car had been moved, and I said yes I was honest.”Mr Warner replied: “In order to be licensed it had to be insured. You could not have been successful in licensing it online.”Ms Taylor, of Farm Lane, Hamilton Parish, replied that it was her first vehicle and she was unaware of the procedures that had to be followed. She said she thought that being given so many tickets was “a bit excessive”.Mr Warner fined her a total of $700 for having an unlicensed car and $800 for not having insured it. He also meted out 20 demerit points and told her to pay the fines by September 22.
