Man stole phones from shop where he worked

A phone shop worker who stole and then sold his company’s products is to be sentenced in Magistrates’ Court.Jahmarley Gardiner, 25, of Ord Road, Warwick, pleaded guilty to three counts of theft from CellOne.The court heard that between May 1 and 8, sales assistant Gardiner took a $999 iPhone, plus two Samsung Galaxy phones worth $569 each between May 5 and June 12.The iPhone, discovered missing later in the month by a fellow employee, was registered on May 8 at Digicel by a man who told authorities he had bought it for $700 from Gardiner.Another phone, brought back to a CellOne store because it was faulty, turned out to have been stolen, while records at another store showed the third being sold to another customer. The transactions were traced to Gardiner, who admitted selling them and keeping the money.Calling the scheme a breach of trust, Crown counsel Susan Mulligan called for “a short, sharp jail sentence”.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered a social enquiry report, and adjourned sentencing until October 31.
