Postal workers’ drug conspiracy case ends in acquittals
A drugs conspiracy case against three postal workers who were charged in February ultimately ended with acquittals this week in Magistrates’ Court.Hoped Burrows, 31, from St George’s, Michaelia Selvin, 28, from Pembroke, and Anthony Rogers, 59, from Hamilton Parish, were formally charged with conspiring with unknown individuals to import cannabis to Bermuda. The offence was said to have occurred between an unknown date and February 19, 2010.Mr Rogers was further charged with fraudulently retaining a Fisher Price swing set.All three defendants entered not guilty pleas. During the early stages of the trial Ms Selvin’s lawyer, Charles Richardson, successfully argued that there was no case to answer against his client.The trial continued against the two other defendants before Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo. Lawyer Marc Daniels who appeared for Mr Rogers and Ricky Woolridge for Mr Burrows both submitted another set of legal arguments in September.On Tuesday, Magistrate Tokunbo returned with a ruling and the two defendants were acquitted on the charges drawn against them.
