The trial of a man accused of murdering social worker Ida James is due to get underway today.Norris Simpson, 54, denies killing Ms James, 66, on or about September 1, 2011.She was found dead at her home on Berry Hill Road, Paget, on the morning of Friday, September 2, 2011.During the jury selection process yesterday, prosecutor Takiyah Burgess described Ms James as “Bermuda’s first social worker” and “sister of Dr Clarence James”.Dr James is a former Finance Minister. Ms Burgess also explained that Ms James worked for the Department of Social Services.A jury of nine men and three women were selected for the trial, which is due to hear from around 25 witnesses and last an estimated two weeks. They will return today, when it is expected the case for the Crown will open.There are three prosecutors working on the case — Director of Public Prosecutions Rory Field, Deputy Director Cindy Clarke and Ms Burgess.Craig Attridge and Charles Richardson represent Mr Simpson, of North Shore Road, Pembroke.
