Man fined for swearing at police officer

A Hamilton Parish man was fined this morning after he admitted calling a police officer an “Oreo”.Vincent Outerbridge, 39, pleaded guilty to using offensive words towards the officer. He said he made the comments after the officer refused to give him a ride.Magistrates’ Court heard that officers received a report of two men fighting in the Burnt House Hill area on April 26.They saw Outerbridge walking along Harbour Road in Warwick and spoke to him about the altercation. During the conversation, Outerbridge asked the officer for a ride home, saying: “I pay my taxes.”When the officer refused, Outerbridge said: “F**k you, you f***ing Oreo. You should be f***ing white. You ain’t f***ing black.”The officer subsequently arrested Outerbridge for using offensive language.Outerbridge told the court this morning that earlier on the day in question, he was being given a ride to his workplace by his cousin’s friend and got into an argument about how the other man was driving. As a result of the argument, Outerbridge was punched in the eye, and the other man drove off.He told the court he was “delirious” after the hit. When stopped by an officer he said he politely asked for a ride to the hospital and only became upset when refused.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner however said he didn’t believe Outerbridge’s version of events and fined him $1,000 for the offence.
