Man admits stealing jewellery for drugs

A Warwick man was remanded into custody today after he admitted stealing $7,500 of jewellery from a Hamilton store.Sinclair Fox, 54, pleaded guilty to one count of burglary in connection with the June 17 theft.Magistrates’ Court heard that CCTV footage from the Butterfield Building on Front Street showed Fox as he entered through an unsecure door around midnight.He attempted to enter several stores in the building before gaining access to Kirk's Jewellery and Design.Two rings and a watch were taken.Fox later admitted the theft, saying he sold the items to buy heroin and cocaine.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered a drug assessment and a social inquiry report be carried out on Fox and jailed him until August for sentencing.
