Man and woman admit heroin plot

A man and woman yesterday admitted their involvement in a plot to import heroin to the Island.Winston Burgess, 49, of Middletown Drive, Pembroke, and Shakeda Davis, 28, of Schools Drive, Devonshire, both admitted conspiring with others to import 154.18g of diamorphine, better known as heroin, to Bermuda.The offence was said to have occurred between an unknown date and April 25, 2012.Davis also admitted possessing 78.73g of cannabis and 1.35g cannabis resin with intent to supply in an increased penalty zone on February 17, 2012.The pair had initially denied the offences and were set to go to trial on the heroin matter yesterday. However, just before jury selection for the trial was set to begin, the pair reversed their pleas.Puisne Judge Carlisle Greaves ordered a drug assessment for Burgess and a social inquiry report for Davis. The matters were adjourned until August 5 for sentencing.
