Man stole $772 worth of cigarettes

A 53-year-old man who stole $772 worth of cigarettes from several locations has been remanded into custody.Kevin Robinson, of Hamilton Parish, pleaded guilty to five charges of theft, which occurred from August 22 to September 5.Robinson stole Marlboro cigarette cartons from Woodbourne Chemist, Clarendon Pharmacy, Collector’s Hill Apothecary, and Onion Jack’s Trading Post.Crown counsel Cindy Clarke told the court Robinson entered the stores wearing a baseball hat and shades and asked for cartons of cigarettes.The court heard after Robinson’s cash card was declined at each purchase attempt, he grabbed the cartons of cigarettes and fled from the scene.When Robinson went to Paget Pharmacy to continue his string of thefts, he was wearing a helmet which caused the cashier to be suspicious.The cashier asked Robinson to remove the helmet, and she recognised him from previous theft reports.Robinson fled from the store without stealing and the police were notified and were able to arrest him.Robinson told the court he struggled with heroin addiction, and asked for rehabilitation services.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner remanded Robinson into custody until October 10, for a social inquiry and BARC report to be completed.
