Jury discharged in attempted murder case

The trial of three men charged with attempted murder ended abruptly yesterday with Puisne Judge Charles-Etta Simmons discharging the jury.Devon Hewey, 23, Cervio Cox, 29, both from Warwick, and Julian Washington, 23, from Pembroke, have all denied attempting to murder Lavon Thomas and Darren Thompson during a Reid Street shooting on March 24 last year.The trio also pleaded not guilty to the charge of using a firearm to commit an indictable offence, specifically attempted murder, in connection to the same incident.Their Supreme Court trial began earlier this week, but shortly after a lunch break Mrs Justice Simmons discharged the jurors, thanking them for their time.The three defendants were remanded into custody, and the matter was adjourned until the October arraignments session to be mentioned.
