Impaired driver banned from road six years after offence
A man incurred a hefty fine as well as a one-year ban from the roads after appearing before Magistrates’ Court for offences committed more than six years ago.
Jared Hollis, 28, of Spanish Point, told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner he had no recollection of the March 3, 2007 crash, in which he sustained a head injury.
He received serious injuries to his face after his motorcycle collided with a van on Pitts Bay Road. Police later attended King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and tested his blood on suspicion of impaired driving.
Hollis was found to have 152 mg of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 mg.
Mr Warner fined him $1,000 and disqualified him from driving for one year.
The court also heard that on May 5, 2007, Hollis was found by officers outside Cafe Cairo on Front Street shortly before 3am.
Complaining that he had been assaulted, Hollis told police they were “a bunch of f*****g p*****s”.
Mr Warner fined him $500 for the offence.
