Housekeeper admits stealing from former employers
A housekeeper has admitted stealing more than $45,000 in jewellery and silver cutlery from her former employers.
Terry Ann Rogers, of St George’s, will be sentenced pending a Social Inquiry Report after pleading guilty to three counts of theft in Magistrates’ Court this morning.
She stole $26,500 worth of silver cutlery and $10,700 worth of gold jewellery from Lucinda Pearman.
She also stole $9,620 worth of gold jewellery from Lucinda’s mother-in-law, Suzanne Pearman.
Prosecutor Carrington Mahoney told the court the 50-year-old was apprehended after the items she stole turned up at Bermuda Gold Exchange.
Lucinda Pearman went to the store with a description of the stolen items at which point management identified Rogers.
A search by police at Rogers’ residence turned up stolen items belonging to both Lucinda and Suzanne Pearman.
In a subsequent interview with police, Rogers said she stole the items to pay for groceries for her grandchildren and other essentials between January 20 and July 16 last year.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner adjourned sentencing until January 22.
