Jail for man who assaulted woman

An incarcerated Pembroke man has received 30 days’ imprisonment with time served for assaulting and using threatening words against a woman.

Damany Burchall, 32, of Traveller’s Lane, in currently serving a six-month suspended sentence for another matter.

The sentence was activated when he violated his probation by assaulting and using threatening words against Sarah Burgess on October 3, 2013.

He used threatening words against Ms Burgess again on October 31.

Sentencing for the offences, which he admitted, was delayed pending a Social Inquiry Report, a BARC report, and psychological evaluations.

In Magistrates’ Court, Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner handed Burchall a 30-day sentence for the offences, to run concurrently to the six months Burchall is currently serving, meaning he has already served his time.

Mr Warner gave Burchall two years’ probation. Burchall is obligated to submit to the recommendations of family and social services, refrain from taking illicit substances and drinking excessive amounts of alcohol, and to maintain a job when possible.
