Woman charged with murder of teen
A woman charged with killing a 16-year-old student has been released on bail.
Kiahna Shaunee Trott Edwards, 31, from Paget, was yesterday charged with the murder of Shijuan Jackaire Mungal on September 8 in Warwick.
Magistrates’ Court heard that the teenager was allegedly struck with a wooden baseball bat in the Ord Road area.
Ms Edwards was not required to enter a plea as the matter must be heard by the Supreme Court. She remained silent throughout the proceedings in Magistrates’ Court.
When the matter returned before the court yesterday afternoon, Magistrate Juan Wolffe released Ms Edwards on $30,000 bail with two like sureties and several conditions — including that she not contact witnesses, surrender travel documents and wear an electronic monitoring device.
Ms Edwards must also report to police on a daily basis and abide by a curfew.
The matter is set to return to the courts later this month.
Ms Edwards was represented during the hearing by defence lawyer Charles Richardson, while prosecutor Nicole Smith represented the Crown.
