Man fined for obstructing police

Bermuda Police Service

A 22-year-old man has been fined $300 for obstructing police.

Justin Dean pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court this morning to obstructing officers on Friday in Warwick. Prosecutor Cindy Clarke said police had been sent to seize a motorcycle from a home and the defendant tried to grab the keys.

He was also said to have stood in front of the officers and told them to leave his yard.

The court heard Dean, who is unemployed, lives at the home in question, on Lightbourn Drive, but is also a resident of Clarendon Road, Smith’s.

The defendant told the court that a police officer “brushed up on me first, in my own yard”.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo replied that “he’s the law, don’t you understand that?” and said that the officer “has a job to do”.

Mr Tokunbo fined Dean $300, saying he would spend 30 days in prison if he did not pay by December 24.
