Worrell has bail terms reinstated

A defence lawyer had his bail conditions reinstated when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Kamal Worrell, 34, of Pembroke, was arrested yesterday after he failed to appear at a mention hearing and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Defence lawyer Saul Dismont said that Mr Worrell had forgotten the time and that he had arranged with him that he would turn himself in the next morning. But he added that police officers turned up at Mr Worrell’s job and escorted him to Hamilton Police Station before he could do so.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo said: “You can’t complain that they picked him up if you didn’t make arrangements with the Police.”

Mr Tokunbo added that Mr Worrell should have known better, as he is familiar with the courts.

Mr Worrell was due to appear in court for mention yesterday alongside co-defendants Devon Hewey and Dujon Reid-Anderson.

All three men were charged in Magistrates’ Court on December 9 with perverting the course of justice during a Supreme Court trial.

Six charges were laid against the men, all of which allegedly occurred between July 1 and September 23 last year.

The three men will be back in court on January 26.
