A Southampton man accused of brandishing a garden hoe at his father denied the charge when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Ernest Damon Smith, 37, pleaded not guilty to behaving in a threatening way towards Ernest David Smith by walking in an aggressive manner and brandishing a garden hoe.

He also denied violently resisting arrest and assaulting a Police officer.

All offences are alleged to have occurred in Southampton on Sunday, February 22.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo granted $2,000 bail and set a trial date for May 19.

• Also in court today, a 17-year-old Pembroke student denied perverting the course of justice.

Jordan Pitt-Brimmer, 17, pleaded not guilty to giving a false account of an accident that occurred at the junction of Glebe Road and Parsons Road, Pembroke, on December 31.

He also denied causing or allowing a person under the age of 16 to use an auxiliary cycle on Parsons Road on the same date.

Mr Pitt-Brimmer was released on $2,000 bail with a surety and Mr Tokunbo set a trial date for June 24.
